Dr. Jeffrey Carrier is a Professor Emeritus of Biology at Albion College where he taught for more than thirty years. He grew up along the northeast coast of Florida where fishing and diving dominated his free time and introduced him to the oceanic world and the sharks that were found there. During his career as a college professor, he was the recipient of numerous teaching and research awards. He has published many articles in both the scientific literature and in the popular press, including National Geographic Magazine. Carrier’s research has been featured in many television shows for the National Geographic Society and the Discovery Channel’s Shark Week. Dr. Carrier has written and edited four books detailing the biology of sharks and their relatives, including one book written for children. His research has been centered in the Florida Keys where he continues to study nurse shark aging, growth, migration, and reproductive biology. Active in the American Elasmobranch Society, an international organization of scientists, educators, conservationists, and resource managers, he has been elected twice as that professional organization’s President.
